Christine Jorgensen Reveals

Monday, January 30th, 2006

haven’t seen any plays in a long while. finally went to one the past weekend– Christine Jorgensen Reveals.
It’s a small and straightforward play with a bit complexion.

Christine Jorgensen (formerly George Jorgensen) is the first American to undergo a complete sex change operation. This play is a re-make of the only Jorgensen interview sound file left in the history.
Christine’s voice is lip-synced by the main actor (a male playing a transsexual glam blond), the interviewer’s voice is lip-synced and taped by the supporting actor (accordingly, a white male playing a black guy’s voice). this itself is a pretty interesting combination.
Other than the messages delivered through this experimental theater experience, the lip-synced performance is quite superb… no mistakes throughout the play… and after awhile it really seems like the sound came from the main actor. However, i wasn’t too convinced by the gesture and body language of this transsexual witty beauty (but after all, i wouldn’t know how the real jorgensen talks…)

anyone interested in gender & social roles can go check it out. it’s a small production but very contemporary. :) plus, Dodge theater is such a nice place to enjoy shows ^_^

it’s 2006 already?

wow… seems like i’ve abandoned my blog for awhile… :P
first of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!!! can u believe that it’s 2006 already?
i still feel like i’m living in 2004! maybe it’ll only hit me that it’s 2006 when it’s 2008…

NYC in 2006 is a whole lot different for me. the biggest change being, my dear friend virginia moved back to SF….
(darn… who is going to go to all those nonsense events with me from now on?)
all she left me was some craps, a brand new hot water pot with the wrong power cord (still crap), and many damn good memories….. sigh…. i’ve been drinking flower tea everyday now since she left. :_(

so now, i still have my long NYC to-do list, but nobody to-do with.

here are some of them:
- MOMA Pixar 20 years exhibition
- PS1 museum (i’ve been talking about that for years and never been? so lazy)
- sonic vision at the museum of natural history (ALSO talked about this for so long…)
- sunday wine tasting class at OTTO
- monthly debate at Lolita
- Alice teacup afternoon tea
- chocolate/dessert hunting
- weird off off broadway plays
- underground break dancing battle
- rollerblading
- treasure hunting in flea markets

and the list goes on….

sigh… how sad… :( virginia u give me come back~
