earlier today i had some really good french toast… i love french toast!!!
202, at Chelsea market, has this creamy and fluffy french toast that almost melt in my mouth.
altho, i would love it more if the side is not the crispy bacon. i think some fruits would feel more refreshing with the too buttery french toast.
after finishing every bite of it, i felt very satisfying but also a bit too oily.
202 is on my top french toast list now here’s other two places i like, but i think i’m still searching for the perfect french toast
- cafe orlin’s is good in a more old fashion way, more taste of egg and milk than butter, not THAT impressive at first but it makes you go back again and again!
- 9th street market’s french toast, make with raisin cinnamon bread, is so yummy too~ but only half of the order is made with raisin cinnamon~ the other half is usually dry… plus, the waiter there is a jerk :P

so this year’s Oscar best foriegn film goes to Tsotsi, a South African featured film.
wanted to see that film for awhile … maybe because the trailer reminded me of the City of God, which by the way is still the best film since 2004.
yesterday finally went to see Tsotsi….
Tsotsi is a movie about a teenager gangster in Johannesburg. he accidentally steals a baby and soften his gangsta heart. however, facing his painful past, criminal present, and hopeless future, he might have already gone too far to turn back….
While i’m glad to see a South Africa production gained so much publicity, i’m a bit dissapointed. i guess i’ve always expected more from foriegn films. The don’t have the strong resources of hollywood, but they have the advantage of not being framed. I was hoping to
see not only cultural presentation, but also creative/different ways of
story telling. In Tsotsi, the preformance is superb. the scene is shocking (gave a good culture
shock to the Americans), but the story is a bit lame. it’s a very hollywood
plot and the story telling is just too straight on.
Still a movie worth seeing. the main character acting is impressive, i can’t get the killer stare out of my head. :) (but if u haven’t seen the City of God, go rent that DVD first, it’s a must see!!!!)
with my lack of knowledge in american journalism/politics/history, i did find the movie "good night and good luck" a bit hard to follow. However, even for me, the message is still loud and clear, and the production is still impressive. now i finally know who’s Edward R. Murrow and who’s Joseph McCarthy~ so

about the production, something worth pointing out is that the movie was " filmed on color film stock but on a grayscale set, and was later color corrected to black and white during post-production."
doesn’t that sound weird? why go through all the trouble doing a grayscale set? why? why? why?
i later found a possible answer… in an article on Millimeter.com, George Clooney said:
“We shot tons of tests in black and white. Our problem was black-and-white footage is so much more about lighting. The lighting package alone is literally double — not just the cost, but [the time]. We really wanted to pre-light as much as we could so that we could just run into a room and shoot, and you can do that on color stock. You couldn’t do that on black and white; you really needed to light the hell out of it.”
Clooney shot everything on long lenses with two cameras rolling at the same time. “The secret for us was that we wanted to be able to always overlap the dialogue. I don’t have a single looped line in the film, and it was important to us because I hate loops. I think they look like shit.” The film was then printed on black-and-white stock, which was more expensive, but as Clooney says, “It gives it a hell of a look.”
