my mom once told me that,
"before your have everything to lose, do anything you like."
of course, she further explained (as she always does), that the ‘anything’ has to involve challenging goals that push your own limits and expand your views.
for example, if you suddenly want to go live in Israel for an year and learn Hebrew, go ahead.
if you want to live in a vineyard for 1 year and learn about wine making, go ahead.
no need to find reasons to prove it’s the right thing to do, or worry too much about the actual benefits on your career life. because in the end, everything WILL come together naturally.
really?
well, it’s quite hard not to have doubts that everything will just merge together magically — especially when many other young ppl have a much clearer step by step planning to their life, career, and everything else. maybe because we are trained to think that doing things with a persuasive purpose and a systematic plan is always better. we think too hard about purpose, and more than often, deny the simplest purpose of youth.
of course, that is because we are standing on our parent’s shoulders. we have the luxuries to reach higher, see further, and maybe go beyond more. we have a great starting point, but are we fully using it to our advantages? if we don’t follow the beaten path, will we discover an even better place?
as i grow older, i understand the meaning of "everything to lose" more and more.
life are full of priorities. before you know it, ur priorities will be full of something like this: career, health, relationships, husband, kids, parents, and friends (not in any particular order).
priorities and responsibilities are great, because it gives you a life in return.
I can’t wait to get into all that!!!!
but before i do, before i have everything to lose, i now really have — nothing to lose.
